What's included
What grinding includes. Scoped in a free written estimate before any work begins.
- Grinding 6-12 inches below grade, deeper on request
- Surface roots chased so the lawn mows flat
- Chips backfilled into the hole, or hauled away
- A finish ready for topsoil and seed
- Narrow-access machines that fit through backyard gates
- Multiple stumps handled in a single visit
When to call
Why grind that stump.
Old Buffalo neighborhoods are full of stumps from trees lost to storms and the emerald ash borer. Most sit in tight backyards, which is why we run compact grinders that fit through a standard gate - no fence panels removed, no lawn torn up getting the machine in.
- You want to reseed or replant the spot
- It is a tripping hazard for kids and guests
- Suckers keep sprouting from the old roots
- Carpenter ants and fungus have moved in
- You are tired of mowing around it
We'll take a look and give you a straight answer — the assessment is free.

Questions
Common questions about stump grinding.
01How deep do you grind?
Typically 6-12 inches below grade, which is enough for grass, gardens, and most replanting. Need deeper for a new driveway or foundation work? We can do that too - just tell us the plan.
02What happens to the wood chips?
Your choice: we backfill the hole with the chips (they settle as they compost), or haul them off and leave the hole ready for topsoil.
03Can I plant a new tree in the same spot?
Yes, with a little prep - we grind deep, remove the bulk of the chips, and backfill with soil so a new tree gets a clean start.
